HOW TO KEEP THE CHRISTMAS PARTY GOING!
Looking forward to seeing Kevin from Accounts try it on with Stacy from Marketing after a bit of Dutch courage? Or maybe you’re keen to see quiet Malcolm’s Michael Jackson impression? Either way, as a Door Security Supervisor for 7 years I’ve seen it all happen at Christmas parties; and here are a few simple tips and bits of advice from me to ensure you and everyone else stays safe, and keeps the party going all night long!

OHHH, IT’S THAT KIND OF PARTY!
Christmas parties can be a number of events. You might have a room booked in nightclub, bar or restaurant, you could go for a pub crawl, or the most common is a few drinks straight after work.
If you have your Christmas party booked for a day when you’ll need to be in work at 9am the following morning, then book it off if you can! The last thing you want to do is be the person who has to go home early because of work in the morning and then feel left out because you missed something epic happen. Hopefully the event is a Friday or Saturday and this shouldn’t be a problem. Following on from this, don’t forget that you will at some stage after the Christmas party have to return to work. Don’t think that any of your actions will go forgotten about. Now yes, you can use your drunken state as an excuse for trying it on with poor Stacy but people will remember, and you don’t want to embarrass yourself and ruin your reputation. Especially if you have any form of power within the workplace, such as a manager.

CITY CENTRE VENUE
So let’s say you have a room book in a busy City Centre bar, unlimited tab and food is being provided. Sound like a nice do. You must work for a decent company because that sounds expensive and you especially don’t want to be the one to ruin that night. A mistake I see people make a lot is drinking too soon. It sounds like common sense but pace yourself especially until you’ve eaten some food. Drinking on an empty stomach is one of the biggest mistakes I see people make. Do your homework before the party and ask around the office who will be attending. You can plan similar arrival times as well as maybe planning taxis home or after party arrangements to paint the town red. Make sure these are close friends within work, ones you trust to have your back, and would be happy to see you worse for wear. It’s important to remember that you have only rented the venue and that the venue itself will have its own security and management staff. These people have the right to eject you from their venue at any moment if they consider you to have had too much, so try to handle yourself before you leave. Security can also make or break a night. If you don’t feel safe, you’re not going to feel happy. Contact info@deltasecuritysolutions.co.uk if you are planning an event and want to have the best night.
Now that I’ve got my shameless plug in… It’s a good idea to arrange with other colleagues to meet up for food beforehand and then go onto the Christmas Party. Always look out for each other when someone has gone a little over the top and make sure they get put in a taxi home. Also, decide beforehand what venues you will be going to afterwards. Its a good idea to communicate with these venues to see if they can accommodate your full party. The last thing you need is to be refused from a venue due to the size of your party. Visit the venues the weekend before and discuss with door staff or management your plans and exchange contact information. At the end of the day the venue would love to have your party come to their venue due to the increase in sales and shouldn’t refuse your request.

T’WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE THE HOLS
Lastly, you’ve been working hard all year and its now 4pm Friday night before Christmas break at work. You’ve all arranged to go out for a drink after work so you shut up shop early and make your way into town for a couple. Sounds like a plan. Same as before, don’t forget to eat before you start drinking. Choose a pub that serves food and if there aren’t any then bring something from home. These types of parties don’t normally last as long as the other two as most people will just come for a couple of drinks while still in their uniforms then make their own way home. The mad few in the office will stay out until the early hours trying to out do each other.
THINGS TO REMEMBER
You will have to return to work and face the repercussions of your actions. Do not think for one second that if you are married its ok to try it on with one of your colleagues. This will always end up in heartbreak and isn’t worth it. And remember what happens at the Christmas party, doesn’t stay at the Christmas party…
